Kok Loon is a mentor at NEXEA, an early Startup Accelerator, Angel Network and Venture Capital. NEXEA has invested in more than 35 Startups across Southeast Asia and is known for creating value in their investments. NEXEA is backed by experienced entrepreneurs who have done their M&As and IPOs or are CEOs of publicly listed companies. More importantly, they want to give back to the next wave of entrepreneurs.
Kok Loon started his career as an investment analyst at British Investment Bank, Cazenove & Co., heading their Kuala Lumpur office in 1996 before moving to their London Headquarters and subsequently their regional office in Hong Kong in 1997 and 1999 respectively, where he covered the Asian markets (ex-Japan).
Kok Loon was also a partner in a private corporate financial advisory company before joining Bursa Malaysia-listed automotive company, MBM Resources Berhad (MBMR), with a market capitalisation of over RM1 billion, as its Group Managing Director in 2006. During his tenure as Managing Director, Kok Loon oversaw the MBMR Group expand its operations, with the distribution of vehicles of leading world automotive brands and the manufacturing of a wide range of automotive parts. He left the Group in 2017 after 15 years on the Board of which 11 years as its Group Managing Director.
Today, he continues to pursue his interests in investments, and mentoring companies where he enjoys advising and sharing his experiences in business and management with young and budding companies.
Kok Loon holds a Bachelor’s degrees in Government and Economics from Brunel University, UK and a Master’s in Management from the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK.
